Parker School offers a complete K-12 college-preparatory program in separate facilities for lower, middle and upper school students on our Waimea campus. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary structure and cohesive sequence. Teachers at each level meet frequently to ensure continuous integration of their various disciplines.
The lower school strives to engage young children through their natural curiosity and joy of exploration while instilling solid basics. In grade 6, students are introduced to a wide array of subjects to allow for a base to go on to successive grade levels. Grades 7 and 8 work from the knowledge base created in 6th grade and focus on developing a more defined understanding of the core classes. Coordination with the upper school curriculum ensures that students are appropriately prepared for the upper school college preparatory program. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students take Spanish language classes, continuing through to 12th grade. With the opening of the lower school, Spanish language instruction begins in kindergarten. As these students progress, the level of instruction in the middle and upper schools will rise accordingly, allowing for Honors and Advanced Placement courses and the ability to explore the art history, literature, and culture of Spanish-speaking lands.
The performing and fine arts, as well as out-of-classroom experiences and community service, are important aspects of Parker School.
