King and Queens- Maia Tarnas, Luke Potter, Kosuke Kume and Vera Mahoney
After studying the medieval period in history class with Mrs. Sturges, Parker School seventh graders reenacted their own medieval feast. Complete with food and drink the feast lacked nothing except plates, knives and forks. In keeping with historic accuracy the students devoured their meal of fowl from the air, fish from the sea and swine from the land served on trenchers of square of homemade bread, gingerbread cookies were the sweet treat at the end of the meal. In keeping with the theme, senior students acted as servers to the noble seventh grade banquet attendees.
The students voted for a king and queen for being most kind and noble. King Kosuke Kume was selected as leader and two queens were chosen to accompany him, Queen Maia Tarnas, and Queen Vera Mahoney. The trio oversaw the banquet after being knighted by the high king, Dr. Sturges, Headmaster.
The nobles practiced their sportsmanship through martial arts, mock jousting, sword and target practice, strategy games of chess and checkers. Working on their heraldry the girls painted their shields.
The banquet full of riddles and Irish toasts, featured entertainment from Parker high school students portraying a drama of a dragon tale, singing carols and sharing folklore. The leader was the master of rebels, Zen Kuriyama. For more information on Parker School visit www.parkerschool.net.
