Parker School Senior Receives $2K Foodland Scholarship

Parker School
Lucas Chavez-Pardini - Salutatorian of the Class of 2008

Parker School's Lucas Chavez-Pardini is just one of 100 students across the state to receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Foodland Shop for Higher Education program.

Lucas, an exemplary scholar and athlete – he was the graduating class's salutatorian and the 2008 male “Athlete of the Year” - will use the money to attend Northern Arizona University. He plans to major in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on renewable energy.

"Lucas embodies the very best aspects of Parker School. He is caring of others, focused on personal excellence, and recognizes the value of human kindness," says Headmaster Carl Sturges.

Lucas volunteers with TREE Hawaii (Tropical Reforestation & Ecosystems Education), is a National Honor Society member, and a member of the Spanish and Electric Vehicle clubs.

In his senior year alone, he earned several honors, including an “Outstanding Writing” award in English, an “Outstanding Student” award in his algebra and trigonometry class, and a “Most Valuable Player” award in paddling. The awards were a cap to a high school career filled with such recognition.

Lucas had his choice of where to apply the scholarship. He also was accepted at Sonoma State University, Humboldt State University, and the University of Colorado at Boulder, School of Engineering.

Many thanks to Foodland and the shoppers who designated Parker as their "favorite school" when making purchases. Your support is so very important to our students.
